Mathematics
All students will have the opportunity to benefit fully from a broad, balanced programme, which makes a relevant and strong contribution to a general education.
Aim
To develop the mathematical knowledge of students through the application and study of mathematical concepts, terminology, notation, facts, generalisations, methods and techniques.
To give students the confidence to use their mathematical abilities and skills.
To develop social and communication skills.
An ability to understand and interpret mathematical information presented in a variety of forms and be able to translate from one to another.
Objectives
By following an appropriate course of study allowing continuity between two years of GCSE.
- Achieved by Edexcel GCSE scheme of work in full accordance with the DfE guidelines.
- By an ‘active learning’ approach which will help to motivate students.
By having a variety of teaching strategies
- Implementing TEEP – Effective teaching and learning method.

- To enhance the prospects of more able and less able students by adopting different teaching strategies for individuals.
- The faculty will also identify the strengths and weaknesses in learning and will provide feedback to students, parents and others key stakeholders.
By assessment and evaluation
- Measurements will be taken of all student’s progress by monitoring progress across a range of skills and abilities.
- Mile stone assessments for all year groups every half term.
- Regular meetings of the mathematics department, and the active involvement in delivery, development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, organisation, assessment.
- We will encourage students to peer and self-assess on a frequent and consistent basis.
